Better consumer protection for second-hand vehicles

October 23, 2019

I want to see better protections for consumers who choose to buy an older second-hand motor vehicle.¬†ūüöó

Currently, if you buy a second-hand motor vehicle that's more than 10 years old or been driven more than 160,000 kilometres, there's no statutory warranty (set time or distance period where a dealership is required to repair the vehicle) available.

Today I'm moving a motion asking the Government to review the legislation to see if protections can be expanded. I want buyers to have greater confidence in what they're buying and, if they have bought a lemon, to have better and clearer courses of action.
