Why we removed charity bins from public land in Canberra

August 26, 2020

In case you missed it: in April we removed the charity bins on public land around Canberra.

This was a decision made with the support of the charity bin operators.

Despite a range of measures to address the problem, including CCTV and improved compliance, some Canberrans were still continuing to dump goods next to bins, leaving our city untidy.

High quality items, including clothing, books and homewares, can still be accepted by charities with shop fronts currently accepting goods.

ACT Government's Recyclopedia page has plenty of suggestions for fabrics and textiles.

There are still some charity bins on private land, such as in the Westfield Belconnen car park.
