Tara's Thoughts

First sitting day for 2019

February 12, 2019

Today marked the first sitting day back in the ACT Legislative Assembly. We passed legislation, presented petitions, spoke on matters of public importance and of course had Question Time! A few highlights of what my day looked like:

  • speaking to a petition on the adequacy of the resources at the Canberra Sexual Health Centre, noting the care there is exceptional
  • debating the Electoral Act Amendment Act in principle
  • debating the Canberra Institute of Technology Amendment Bill (largely technical), which later passed - our first legislation to pass this year
  • asking the Chief Minister about the future of international Test cricket in Canberra during Question Time
  • reflecting on the journey of the Belconnen Town Centre Master Plan, following the variation to the Territory Plan being tabled today (it implements key recommendations of the Master Plan - realising a vision and importantly giving certainty to building heights in the Town Centre)

Tomorrow I'll be moving a motion about the Murray Darling Basin and its maladministration which has devastated so many communities. Did you know that Canberra is the largest population centre within the Basin?
